The inside of the marble pattern can be solid or open.
When the pattern is solid, we simply call this a solid marble.
When the pattern is open, we can have a solid perimeter or a broken perimeter around the outside of the pattern itself. Inside the perimeter, the pattern can be completely clear, or it can be tessellated with a well defined geometry, or it can be mottled with a less well-defined geometry. Common terms used to describe some of the fill patterns are lace, chained, and stained glass. We’ll try to define these, and also come up with some more specific terms here.
